GRAMMAR ONE! A tag question is a short question added to the end of a statement to confirm or verify information, and its form generally reflects the type of topic sentence. Example: 1. If the main sentence is affirmative, the tag question will be negative and vice versa. - Affirmative main sentence: You are coming, tag question: aren't you? - Negative main sentence: You aren't coming, tag question: are you? 2. The tag question usually uses the auxiliary verb of the main sentence (or the verb "to be" if there is no auxiliary). - She is studying, isn't she? - You have finished, haven't you? 3. If the main sentence has a modal verb, the tag question will use the same modal verb. - You can swim, can't you? -They will be here soon, won't they? 4. If the main sentence is in the simple present tense, the tag question uses "do" in its proper form (does for the third person singular). - He speaks Spanish, doesn't he? ...
